November 6, 2024: New Kent, VA 23124 In Wednesday's non-league challenge, the host New Kent Trojans volleyball team scored a 3-0 victory over the Lakeland Cavaliers.
The Trojans (21-2) will now prepare for their challenge against Colonial Heights (Colonial Heights, VA). The Colonials enter the non-league challenge with a 15-6 record. In their last challenge, Colonial Heights beat Lafayette (Williamsburg, VA), 3-0, in a non-league challenge.
Match Summary
The Lady Trojans swept Lakeland in their Region 3A quarterfinal match at New Kent, 25-8, 25-9, 25-13. New Kent played everyone, starting to sub halfway through the first set. Highlights for New Kent were the hitting of Leah Rounds and Fallon Greenawalt, who both contributed 10 Ks and 3 aces to the win. Behind them were Carly Sachs with 5 Ks, Kendall White and Hannah Sachs with 4 Ks, and Chloe Lightner and Ryan Griffith with 3 Ks. Setters Mackenzie Loveland and Desirae Stowe ran the offense, contributing 17 and 14 assists, respectively, and 1 K each. Stowe led the defensive effort with 8 digs, followed by Loveland with 6 digs, DS Chloe Philips and Libero Abby McLaughlin with 5, and DSs Lis Flores and Hunter Harlow with 4 and 2, respectively. Defensively at the net, White, Lightner, and Griffith contributed 4 blocks, 3 blocks, and one block, respectively. New Kent advances to the Region 3A semifinal match on Nov 7 at home against Colonial Heights.
