Arizona High School Basketball - Foothill nips San Tan Charter
December 8, 2023: Gilbert, AZ Foothill Falcons (Henderson, NV) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad tip the host San Tan Charter Roadrunners (Gilbert, AZ), 88-85 in a non-league bout.
With the win, Foothill upgrades its record to 3-1 on the season. The Falcons travel to St. Mary's (Phoenix, AZ) to play the Knights in a non-league bout on Saturday, December 9. The Knights go into the bout with a record of 0-3. St. Mary's lost 79-78 in their recent non-league bout against Desert Mountain (Scottsdale, AZ)
Next up, the Roadrunners play the Miami Vandals (Miami, AZ) in a 2A Valley bout, on Tuesday, December 12. San Tan Charter will attempt to upgrade on its 7-2 season record. The Vandals go into the bout with a 0-3 record after their 75-37 non-league loss to Hayden (Winkelman, AZ).
First Quarter
Foothill doesn't play defense and doesn't follow the game plan allowing their players to score anytime they want to. Luckily, San Tan Charter doesn't play defense either.
Second Quarter
Foothill still doesn't follow the game plan, and lets the San Tan Charter freshmen, Labush. score 18 points. Down 18 at the half.
Third Quarter
Quick comeback by the falcons, who out score the roadrunners, 26-8. An awesome pep talk by Crunk and staff, fired up the team, and eventually holding Labush to 5 points in the second half.
Fourth Quarter
Led by Shawn Salazar's 7 3 pointers in the game, and the stifling full court pressure, and Roadrunners lack of press breaking ability, 15 TOs later the falcons take the lead. After, a questionable foul call with seconds left, the road runners go 1/2 from the line and force overtime.
Overtime
With 90 seconds remaining, the falcons find themselves down by 6. With key buckets by Branden Castro, and deep 3 by Salazar, the falcons claw their way back into it once again. Abdalla hits 5 straight free throws to end the game, as the falcons score 9 straight, capping off the comeback win, 88-85.
