Pennsylvania High School Basketball - Jules E. Mastbaum Vo-Tech nipped by Philadelphia Academy Charter
December 12, 2023: Philadelphia, PA 19116 The Philadelphia Academy Charter Chargers tipped the visiting Jules E. Mastbaum Vo-Tech Panthers basketball team by a final score of 55-53 in Tuesday's league game.
Coming up next, the Chargers confront the Philadelphia Military Academy Knights (Philadelphia, PA) in a Freelance battle, on Thursday, December 14. Philadelphia Academy Charter will attempt to improve on its 3-0 season record. The Knights come into the battle with a 1-1 record after their 43-33 league loss to Swenson Arts & Tech (Philadelphia, PA).
The Panthers (2-2) will now prepare for their battle against Randolph Vo-Tech (Philadelphia, PA). The come into the Philadelphia Public - Colonial battle with a 0-3 record. In their last battle, Randolph Vo-Tech was nudged by Girard Academic Music Program (Philadelphia, PA), 42-32, in a league battle.
First Quarter
Once again PACHS came out sluggish to start the game despite their 2-0 record for the season. A taller and higher energy Mastbaum came out of the gates fast and hard ending the 1st quarter with a 7 point lead and a PACHS team looking for answers both on the offensive and defensive side of the ball.
Second Quarter
Even though the Chargers offense woke up a little, scoring 13 points in the 2nd quarter with Jordan Brennan-Melo leading the charge with 5 points in the quarter. PACHS still found themselves down by 8 points and trailing Mastbaum at the half.
Third Quarter
After the half the Chargers started the 3rd quarter with more energy and more composed, creating 2 turnovers in the first minute of play. This energy continued on the defensive side of the game, however the Chargers still struggled offensively and were down by 7 points at the end of the 3rd quarter.
Fourth Quarter
Despite Mastbaum having the lead for a majority of the game, the Chargers hung in the game and slowly ate away at the visitor's lead. PACHS heated up offensively in the 4th quarter with the help of Brennan-Melo's 8 points in the 4th and crucial foul shooting from Jonah Williams- White and Dominic Prybella late in the game. Jordan Benzenafher also helped the cause with 12 points and 6 defensive rebounds in the 2nd quarter of the game.
