The Covington Owls basketball team scored 61 points and limited the visiting Irion County Hornets to 59 in the Owls non-league triumph on Friday.

The Owls now possess a 8-4 record. They play next when they host Bartlett for a non-league game on Saturday, December 14. Covington will play a Bulldogs team coming off a 39-33 non-league win over Avalon (Avalon, TX). The Bulldogs record now stands at 3-2.

With the loss, Irion County falls to 4-4 on the campaign. The Hornets travel to Garden City (Garden City, TX) to play the Bearkats in a 1A Region II District 11 game on Tuesday, December 17. The Bearkats go into the game with a record of 2-8. Garden City lost 55-35 in their recent non-league game against Valley (Turkey, TX)
