In Friday's non-league match, the visiting Union Pines Vikings basketball team scored a tight 46-39 triumph over the East Chapel Hill Wildcats.

In their next game, the Vikings meet the Scotland Fighting Scots (Laurinburg, NC) in a 3A/4A Sandhills match, on Friday, January 5. Union Pines will attempt to move on its 7-5 season record. The Fighting Scots enter the match with a 9-1 record after their 60-53 non-league win over Varsity Opponent (, ).
