Sacred Heart Academy Spartans (Hempstead, NY) backers were pleased Saturday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the visiting Moore Catholic Mavericks (Staten Island, NY), 48-47 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, Sacred Heart Academy upgrades its record to 2-2 on the campaign. The Spartans host St. Anthony's (Melville, NY) to play the Friars in a Catholic - Long Island bout on Tuesday, January 16. The Friars come into the bout with a record of 0-2.

Next up, the Mavericks play the Kennedy Catholic Gaels (Somers, NY) in a Catholic - Brooklyn/Queens II bout, on Saturday, December 30. Moore Catholic will attempt to upgrade on its 6-1 season record.
