The Hazleton Area Cougars (Hazleton, PA) basketball nipped the host Liberty Hurricanes (Bethlehem, PA), 55-53 in Wednesday's non-league test.

The Cougars (4-3) will now prepare for their test against Tunkhannock (Tunkhannock, PA). The Tigers go into the Wyoming Valley 1 test with a 3-3 record. In their last test, Tunkhannock was tipped by Northwest Area (Shickshinny, PA), 58-54, in a non-league test.

The Hurricanes now own a 6-3 record. They play next when they travel to Pocono Mountain East for a Eastern Pennsylvania - Mountain test on Tuesday, January 3. Liberty will encounter a Cardinals squad coming off a 57-52 non-league win over Northampton (Northampton, PA). The Cardinals record now stands at 1-5.
