The crowd at Saturday's non-league challenge between the West Oso Bears (Corpus Christi, TX) and the visiting Wharton Tigers (Wharton, TX), observed West Oso's basketball team knock off Wharton by a score of 61-53.

The Bears (16-7) will now prepare for their challenge against Mathis (Mathis, TX). The Pirates come into the 3A Region IV District 29 challenge with a 8-8 record. In their last challenge, Mathis dropped by London (Corpus Christi, TX), 60-49, in a league challenge.

In their next game, the Tigers encounter the Needville Bluejays (Needville, TX) in a 4A Region IV District 29 challenge, on Friday, January 3. Wharton will attempt to improve on its 15-8 season record. The Bluejays come into the challenge with a 5-10 record after their 42-19 non-league loss to George Ranch (Richmond, TX).
