Nevada High School Basketball - Lehi nips Elko
December 29, 2022: Elko, NV 89801 Lehi Pioneers (Lehi, UT) backers were in high spirits Thursday as they witnessed their basketball squad tip the host Elko Indians (Elko, NV), 52-51 in a non-league bout.
With the win, Lehi upgrades its record to 6-3 on the season. The Pioneers host Timpview (Provo, UT) to play the Thunderbirds in a 5A Region 8 bout on Tuesday, January 3. The Thunderbirds go into the bout with a record of 7-3. Timpview lost 54-48 in their recent non-league bout against Brentwood School (Los Angeles, CA)
Next up, the Indians play the Pocatello Thunder (Pocatello, ID) in a non-league bout, on Friday, December 30. Elko will attempt to upgrade on its 7-2 season record. The Thunder go into the bout with a 6-4 record after their 55-52 non-league loss to Bishop Kelly (Boise, ID).
First Quarter
Elko had a great first quarter scoring 22 points. Lehi scored 12 points and were down by 10 going into the second period.
Second Quarter
Lehi outscored Elko 13 to 5 in the second quarter. Mckinzie Jepson, Addy Scrivner, and Sammi Love all had tree-point shots go down. The score at the end of the first half is 27 to 25 in favor of Elko.
Third Quarter
The teams played evenly in the third quarter as Lehi scored 9 points and Elko had 8. The score going into the final period is 35 for Elko and 34 for the Pioneers.
Fourth Quarter
The fourth quarter went down to the wire. Addy Scrivner and Kyralyn Spencer both made big three-point baskets as the game was in the final minutes. Down by 1 with just seconds left, Hadlie Warren stepped up to the line and sank 2 foul shots to give Lehi a 1- point lead. With time running out, Hadlie stole the ball and that was the game. Lehi wins by the score of 52 to 51. Addy Scrivner led Lehi with 18 points and Sammi Love had 12.
