The Independence Patriots tipped the visiting South Mecklenburg Sabres basketball team by a final score of 53-50 in Thursday's non-league game.

In their next game, the Patriots face the Providence Panthers (Charlotte, NC) in a 4A Conference 59 game, on Tuesday, January 3. Independence will attempt to move on its 11-2 season record. The Panthers enter the game with a 4-9 record after their 48-16 non-league win over Charlotte Country Day School (Charlotte, NC).

With the defeat, South Mecklenburg moves to 9-4 on the year. The Sabres travel to Ardrey Kell (Charlotte, NC) to face the Knights in a 4A Conference 49 game on Tuesday, January 3.
