Fans at Friday's non-league challenge between the Salem Wildcats (Salem, IL) and the host Benton Rangers (Benton, IL), saw Salem's basketball squad hold off Benton by a count of 50-45.

With the victory, Salem upgrades its record to 10-7 on the campaign. The Wildcats host Roxana (Roxana, IL) to play the Shells in a Cahokia - Mississippi challenge on Thursday, January 4. The Shells come into the challenge with a record of 5-8. Roxana lost 56-31 in their recent non-league challenge against Carlyle (Carlyle, IL)

Next up, the Rangers play the Pinckneyville Panthers (Pinckneyville, IL) in a Southern Illinois River-to-River - Mississippi challenge, on Thursday, January 4. Benton will attempt to upgrade on its 8-10 season record.
