Van Alstyne Panthers (Van Alstyne, TX) backers were pleased Saturday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the visiting Newman Smith Trojans (Carrollton, TX), 52-45 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, Van Alstyne upgrades its record to 11-4 on the campaign. The Panthers travel to Pottsboro (Pottsboro, TX) to play the Cardinals in a non-league bout on Friday, December 9. The Cardinals come into the bout with a record of 13-1.

Next up, the Trojans play the Boyd Broncos (McKinney, TX) in a non-league bout, on Tuesday, December 6. Newman Smith will attempt to upgrade on its 3-5 season record. The Broncos come into the bout with a 4-4 record after their 59-29 non-league loss to Pflugerville (Pflugerville, TX).
