Lawrence County Cougars (Monticello, MS) backers were in high spirits Saturday as they witnessed their basketball squad tip the visiting Hillcrest Christian Cougars (Jackson, MS), 47-42 in a non-league bout.

With the win, Lawrence County upgrades its record to 4-12 on the season. The Cougars host Loyd Star (Brookhaven, MS) to clash with the Hornets in a non-league bout on Thursday, January 4. The Hornets go into the bout with a record of 11-2.

Next up, the Cougars clash with the River Oaks Mustangs (Monroe, LA) in a MAIS 3A District 4 bout, on Tuesday, January 2. Hillcrest Christian will attempt to upgrade on its 11-6 season record. The Mustangs go into the bout with a 2-2 record after their 41-32 non-league loss to Sylva Bay Academy (Bay Springs, MS).
