In Friday's non-league contest, the Nixon-Smiley Mustangs (Nixon, TX) softball team held off the host Veterans Memorial Patriots (San Antonio, TX), by a margin of 9-8.

With the triumph, Nixon-Smiley moves its record to 1-3 on the year. The Mustangs travel to Davenport (San Antonio, TX) to play the Wolves in a non-league contest on Tuesday, March 1. The Wolves come into the contest with a record of 8-3. Davenport won 6-5 in their recent non-league contest against Cuero (Cuero, TX)

In their next game, the Patriots play the Winn Mavericks (Eagle Pass, TX) in a non-league contest, on Saturday, February 26. Veterans Memorial will attempt to move on its 2-4 season record. The Mavericks come into the contest with a 0-5 record after their 10-6 non-league loss to Madison (San Antonio, TX).
