The Watauga Pioneers overwhelmed the visiting Mitchell Mountaineers softball squad by a count of 12-1 in Tuesday's non-league challenge.

Next, the Pioneers meet the Freedom Patriots (Morganton, NC) in a Northwestern 6A/7A challenge, on Thursday, April 2. Watauga will attempt to upgrade on its 8-6 season record. The Patriots go into the challenge with a 5-10 record after their 8-2 non-league loss to North Iredell (Olin, NC).

The Mountaineers (9-3) will now prepare for their challenge against North Buncombe (Weaverville, NC). The Black Hawks go into the non-league challenge with a 8-1 record. In their last challenge, North Buncombe achieved victory over Erwin (Asheville, NC), 3-2, in a league outing.
