August 25, 2023: Mt. Vernon, IA 52314 In Friday's non-league game, the Mt. Vernon Mustangs (Mt. Vernon, IA) football team knocked off the visiting Monticello Panthers (Monticello, IA), by a score of 35-6.
The Mustangs (1-0) will now prepare for their game against Union (La Porte City, IA). The Knights come into the non-league challenge with a 0-1 record. In their last challenge, Union was beaten by Aplington-Parkersburg (Parkersburg, IA), 23-7, in a non-league challenge.
The Panthers now sport a 0-1 record. They take the field next when they host Beckman for a non-league challenge on Friday, September 1. Monticello will meet a Trailblazers team coming off a 37-0 non-league loss to Columbus (Waterloo, IA). The Trailblazers record now stands at 0-1.
