August 27, 2021: Grand Junction, CO 81505 In Friday's league contest, the North Park Wildcats (Walden, CO) volleyball squad knocked off the host Caprock Academy Eagles (Grand Junction, CO), by a margin of 3-0.
Next up, the Wildcats battle the Olathe Pirates (Olathe, CO) in a 2A/1A Western Slope contest, on Saturday, August 28. North Park will attempt to better on its 2-0 season record. The Pirates come into the contest with a 2-0 record after their 3-2 non-league win over Cedaredge (Cedaredge, CO).
With the loss, Caprock Academy drops to 0-1 on the campaign. The Eagles travel to Ridgway (Ridgway, CO) to meet the Demons in a non-league challenge on Saturday, August 28. The Demons enter the challenge with a record of 1-1. Ridgway lost 3-0 in their recent league challenge against Ignacio (Ignacio, CO)
Match Summary
The Wildcats went 1-1 this weekend in their first away games. On friday, they played the Caprock Academy Eagles in Grand Junction. The Wildcats came out on fire, winning the first set 25-17. Nicole Meyers, JR had save after save as the Wildcats flew all around the court. Dezirae Gonzales, SO, led the offense with 8 kills. The wildcats put up some big blocks. They finished the game with a 25-7 and a 25-17 win.
On Saturday, they traveled to Olathe High School to face the Pirates. The Wildcats went down in 3 games, 24-26, 25-17, 25-17. There was a lot of good opportunities, the Wildcats just couldn't gain any momentum against the Pirates' defense. Coach Sequoya Bertron sees the loss as a learning opportunity, "not our best performance, but we will continue to learn from it and prepare for next time".
The Wildcats have a busy week this week, traveling to Plateau Valley High School and Rangely on Thursday and Friday. They will be back at home on Saturday!
