The Mathis Pirates walloped the host Taft Greyhounds football team by a score of 48-7 in Friday's non-league challenge.

In their next game, the Pirates play the George West Longhorns (George West, TX) in a non-league test, on Friday, September 5. Mathis will attempt to upgrade on its 1-0 season record. The Longhorns come into the test with a 1-0 record after their 36-21 non-league win over San Diego (San Diego, TX).

With the defeat, Taft drops to 0-1 on the campaign. The Greyhounds travel to West Oso (Corpus Christi, TX) to meet the Bears in a non-league challenge on Friday, September 5. The Bears go into the challenge with a record of 1-0. West Oso won 26-15 in their recent non-league challenge against Santa Gertrudis Academy (Kingsville, TX)
