Coaches Game Summary

The Rocks of Rock Island HS traveled to Normal IL to face the Wildcats of West HS, IHSA 3A preseason #3 ranked team in the state. Behind the steady pitching performance of Sr. Reece Argo Rock Island made every play and inning count as they battled as a young, but worthy opponent. They scored a pair of runs in the top of the 6th to send the contest into the last inning tied, but an errant throw on a sac bunt allowed Normal West the victory as they remained perfect at 3-0 in the early 2012 season.

The Rocks drop to 1-2 on the season. Argo scattered 4 hits to the Wildcats, while striking out 4 and walking 2. Rock Island's 3 errors led to 2 unearned runs and a loss and their miscue on a pair of sac bunt situations reestablishes the need to continue to focus on fundamental baseball execution. That being said 14 of the 17 members of the roster had no varsity experience until less than a week ago, so a 3-2 loss to a ranked team does suggest promise for the remaining season.
