New York High School Softball - Avon edged by Le Roy
April 23, 2019: Avon, NY 14414 The Avon Braves softball team (Avon, NY), was tipped 3-2 in Tuesday's league test with the visiting Le Roy Knights (Le Roy, NY)
Coming up next, the Knights encounter the Livonia Bulldogs (Livonia, NY) in a non-league test, on Wednesday, April 24. Le Roy will attempt to improve on its 7-1 season record. The Bulldogs enter the test with a 5-2 record after their 4-2 league win over Dansville (Dansville, NY).
The Braves (2-5) will now prepare for their test against Hornell (Hornell, NY). The Red Raiders enter the non-league test with a 0-5 record. In their last test, Hornell was tipped by Haverling (Bath, NY), 17-2, in a league test.
Game Summary
Avon opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. Joleigh Crye reached on an error with two outs and Parker Hughes scored her from first with a double. The Braves added a second run in the bottom of the sixth as Alyssa Smith walked with one out and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Amanda Montano. Maddy Atwood drove in the run with a two out single.
The Oatkan Knights scored three times in the top of the seventh. Haley Papp led off the inning with a solo homer to left. Bryn Lucky followed with a bloop double to left center and eventually scored on two wild pitches. With one out, Olivia Johnson doubled to right center and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Johnson scored what proved to be the winning run on a safety squeeze bunt by Hailey Johnson.
Papp threw a complete game four hitter with nine strikeouts for Leroy.
Crye threw a complete game three hitter with seventeen strikeouts and no walks for Avon and took a no hitter into the seventh inning.
