Game Summary
Despite a solid effort from Wizard junior, Mason Provoyeur, West Warwick lost their fifth “one-run” game of the year. Provoyeur powered his way through the Mariner line up the first five innings, allowing no hits while striking out ten batters.
In the top of the sixth inning, however, lead-off hitter Sam Laurie lined a 1-2 pitch by the outstretched hand of second baseman Kyle DaSilva for a single. After Laurie reached second on a wild pitch, Eddie Blessing battled for a walk. Provoyeur, who had reached 94 pitches, was replaced by fellow junior John Pina.
Jordan Riendeau bested Pina, following off three straight pitches in a 9 pitch at bat before blasting a double to left field for a 2-0 lead. Riendeau, who reached third on a balk, scored what would be the winning run with one out on a suicide squeeze.
