Game Summary
In what turned out to be the final game of the season the La Salle varsity baseball team suffered crushing 10-11 lost to St. Edmund Prep in the Quarter-Finals of the 2018 CHSAA Varsity ‘A’ Baseball Playoffs at Fordham University. The Cardinals were up 10-5 going into the bottom of the seventh but the Eagles rallied and scored the tying and winning runs on a throwing error that would have won the game for La Salle.
Both teams put scored two runs in the first inning and were deadlocked until the middle frames as La Salle broke through, scoring five combined runs in the third and fourth innings before St. Edmund answered back with three in the bottom of the fifth. The Cardinals looked to have put the game away as they added an insurance run in the top of the seventh on an RBI single by Angel Espinal following Ethan Rosario’s second triple of the day. But baseball heartbreak knows no inning, St. Edmund rallied, and the Cardinals season came to an end; there will be a new champion.
