The Covington Cougars (Covington, VA) football defeated the host Alleghany Mountaineers (Covington, VA), 28-7 in Friday's non-league bout.

In their next game, the Cougars face the Glenvar Highlanders (Salem, VA) in a non-league bout, on Friday, August 31. Covington will attempt to advance on its 1-0 season record. The Highlanders enter the bout with a 1-0 record after their 28-24 non-league win over Galax (Galax, VA).

The Mountaineers (0-1) will now prepare for their bout against Rockbridge County (Lexington, VA). The Wildcats enter the non-league bout with a 1-0 record.
