Jaryn Simpson has been named player of the year. "Senior guard Jaryn Simpson wrapped-up a brilliant three year varsity basketball career by leading Cathedral Prep in eight different statistical categories in 2016-17, and providing powerful leadership throughout their five game post season run. Simpson scored 381 points in 27 games to lead Prep with a 14.1 average. He also snatched 135 rebounds and dished out 92 assists to lead his team in both of those categories, as well. He had 47 steals, 43 pass deflections, and nailed 128 free throws from 162 attempts for a team leading .790 percent from the foul line. He scored in double figures 22 times, and led the Ramblers in game scoring 16 times. Down the stretch, over the team's final six games, Simpson poured in 106 points for a sharp 17.7 average. This includes a career high 23 point effort against Mars in a losing cause in the state tournament in his last varsity game. Simpson missed just one game in three years, and finished his hoops career with 731 points for a 9.0 average. "
