North Carolina High School Volleyball - Albemarle School New Kent
September 17, 2022: Elizabeth City, NC 27909 In Saturday's non-league battle, the visiting New Kent Trojans volleyball team scored a 2-0 triumph over the Albemarle School Colts.
The Trojans (7-4) will now prepare for their battle against Jamestown (Williamsburg, VA). The Eagles come into the Bay Rivers battle with a 3-4 record. In their last battle, Jamestown achieved victory over Grove Christian School (Richmond, VA), 2-0, in a non-league battle.
Next, the Colts clash with the Northeast Academy Eagles (Lasker, NC) in a NCISAA Tarheel Independent battle, on Tuesday, September 20. Albemarle School will attempt to advance on its 12-3 season record. The Eagles come into the battle with a 5-4 record after their 3-0 non-league loss to Kerr-Vance Academy (Henderson, NC).
Match Summary
In their final match of the Endless Summer Tournament in VA Beach, the Lady Trojans faced the Colts of the Albemarle School (12-2) of Elizabeth City, NC. In a nod to the long day, New Kent started Payton Baily and Chloe Phillips at opposite and OH Courtney Carter on the backrow. Albemarle proved scrappy, forcing New Kent to a 26-24 "overtime" win in the first set. In the second set, New Kent returned to a lineup they used early against Currituck moving Opposite Lexi Powell to OH and suing Ava Neito and Abby McLaughlin at opposite. This time the Lady Trojans took care of business with a comfortable 25-18 win over the Colts. Players deserving of special recognition for the tournament are OH Aubrey Hyndshaw, libero Sophie McLaughlin, and setter Mackenzie Loveland who played all five matches, that's thirteen sets, of the tournament.
