California High School Soccer - Camarillo nudges West
February 22, 2017: Camarillo, CA 93012 Camarillo Scorpions (Camarillo, CA) supporters were pleased Wednesday as they observed their soccer team hold off the visiting West Warriors (Torrance, CA), 2-1 in a non-league challenge.
Next, the Scorpions confront the Citrus Valley Blackhawks (Redlands, CA) in a non-league challenge, on Saturday, February 25. Camarillo will attempt to move on its 11-6 season record. The Blackhawks enter the challenge with a 14-4 record after their 1-0 non-league win over Diamond Bar (Diamond Bar, CA).
The Warriors now possess a 12-6 record.
Game Summary
In the second round the Scorps played a very good opponent in West Torrance, they were physical and discipline. Matt Alcozar got Camarillo on the scoreboard first with a free kick off a West hand ball that Matt drove into the upper right hand corner. The referee had everyone in suspense waiting for the verdict goal/no goal. Final answer GOAL, 1-0 ACHS! later in the second half Hunter won a ball on defense and played to Brandon Duran who crossed to Jacob Cuccia then made a run to the far post to receive the ball back from Cuccia and beat the West keeper going to the far post. In the last 15 minutes West made a hard run at Camarillo coming up with a goal to pull within 1 but the defense of Camarillo withstood the challenge and held on for the 2-1 win. Camarillo is going to the quarterfinals!
