With the win, Sequoia upgrades its record to 12-3 on the season. The Cherokee travel to Sierra Pacific (Hanford, CA) to battle the Golden Bears in a non-league challenge on Tuesday, April 15. The Golden Bears come into the challenge with a record of 11-3. Sierra Pacific won 13-6 in their recent non-league challenge against Shafter (Shafter, CA)
With the defeat, Selma falls to 12-8 on the season. The Bears host Head-Royce (Oakland, CA) to battle the Jayhawks in a non-league challenge on Monday, April 14. The Jayhawks come into the challenge with a record of 5-2. Head-Royce lost 5-0 in their recent league challenge against Valley Christian (Dublin, CA)
Game Summary
Sequoia wasted several scoring chances in the first four innings before finally pushing across two runs in the 5th and another in the 6th en route to a 3-1 win in the Selma Easter Tournament over host Selma HS. SR RHP Kyle Cambron continued his spectacular season allowing the Bears just a single run over 7 full innings and improving to 7-1 on the year. The Sequoia defense was again nearly flawless, cashing in on a pair of big double plays. SR Catcher Chris Ortiz continued his remarkable year behind the plate cutting down the only attempted steal of the afternoon. SR 2B Zane Gelphman went 2 X 3 with a double and an RBI, SR 3B Cameron Greenough singled in a run in three at bats and stole a base, and JR RF Tommy Lopiparo pitched in with an RBI sacrifice fly to round out the Cherokee scoring. Sequoia improves to 12-3-1 on the season and will strap it on again for a double-header tomorrow afternoon vs. Sierra Pacific (12:30 pm) and Kerman (3:00 pm) as the Easter Classic continues.
