New Mexico High School Volleyball - Los Alamos over Moriarty
October 18, 2018: Los Alamos, NM 87544 Los Alamos Hilltoppers (Los Alamos, NM) supporters left the game in high spirits Thursday as they observed their volleyball squad top the visiting Moriarty Pintos (Moriarty, NM), 3-0 in a league match.
Next up, the Hilltoppers clash with the Espanola Valley Sundevils (Espanola, NM) in a 4A District 2 match, on Thursday, October 25. Los Alamos will attempt to advance on its 9-8 season record.
With the loss, Moriarty drops to 7-10 on the campaign. The Pintos host Espanola Valley (Espanola, NM) to clash with the Sundevils in a 4A District 2 match on Tuesday, October 23. The Sundevils come into the match with a record of 12-5. Espanola Valley won 3-1 in their recent non-league match against Clovis (Clovis, NM)
Match Summary
The bounce back game for the Hilltoppers went as they hoped. Los Alamos was able to correct its hitting woes they had against Pojoaque and turn in a sound hitting display against the Moriarty Pintos. The tone was set in the first game with Sophia Salazar, Natalie Gallegos and Elodie Thelliez taking control from the attack line and the Toppers winning 25-18.
Elise Olivas returned to her normal form, running the floor and providing on point sets for her three big hitters. Back row play was solid from Sandoval, Swensen and Duran ensuring a second set 25-18 victory. The third set proved to be more of a challenge as the Hilltoppers came out and struggled a bit before getting back on track with solid kills and taking the third set 25-21.
