Match Summary
The West Johnston Lady Wildcats secured their first win of the season tonight over Garner High School in an up & down 5-set match that started rather inauspiciously with a 19 - 25 first set loss where the girls seemed a bit out of sync. It would have been quite easy for these players to give up to a home team that had already been victorious in the West Johnston gym, especially when finding themselves down in the second set 7 - 14. However, these Wildcats showed terrific heart finishing off that set with an 18 - 5 run and then simply keeping the Lady Trojans at bay in the third set, steadily pulling away for another 25-20 win. The fourth set went all Garner's way, as the Trojan coasted to an 11 - 25 win. The decisive 5th set is often about who can get off to a hot start, and the girls from West did not disappoint, popping out to a quick 7 -3 lead. Garner closed the gap to 7 - 4 and then watched West rip off 7 consecutive points to effectively seal the deal for a very special win.
