Arizona High School Basketball - Arcadia ripped by Seton Catholic
January 5, 2010: Chandler, AZ 85224 In Tuesday's league match, the host Seton Catholic Sentinels basketball team scored a decisive 60-26 triumph over the Arcadia Titans.
In their next game, the Sentinels confront the Coconino Panthers (Flagstaff, AZ) in a non-league match, on Thursday, January 7. Seton Catholic will attempt to better on its 13-4 season record. The Panthers enter the match with a 3-5 record after their 1-0 league loss to Page (Page, AZ).
With the defeat, Arcadia moves to 9-10 on the year. The Titans host Tempe (Tempe, AZ) to confront the Buffaloes in a 4A East Sky match on Friday, January 8. The Buffaloes enter the match with a record of 10-9. Tempe won 47-41 in their recent league match against Coronado (Scottsdale, AZ)
First Quarter
Seton took a 2 - 0 lead, but Andrea Gomez answered with a three pointer, giving Acradia a 3 - 2 lead, and one of the Lady Titans' few highlights of the evening. Teresa Wirth's three-pointer gave Seton a 5 - 3 lead, and fueled a 16 - 2 run which gave the Sentinels an 18 - 5 lead at the end of the first quarter. Kayla Bustos scored nine points in the period.
Second Quarter
The Sentinels expanded their lead in the second period with a 17 - 9 advantage, led by seven points from Teresa Wirth. Seton had a 35 - 14 lead at the half. Diana Musina led Arcadia with four points in the period.
Third Quarter
Seton continued to roll in the third quarter, outscoring Arcadia 19 - 6, for a commanding 54 - 20 lead. Kayla Bustos scored six Sentinel points in the period, while Jenna Longo put up three for the Lady Titans.
Fourth Quarter
Each team scored six points in the fourth quarter, as the game limped to a close with Seton ahead 60 - 26. Breann Harger scored three Arcadia points in the period. For the game, Seton's Kayla Bustos and Teresa Wirth shared high scoring honors with 17 points each, while Andrea Gomez led the Arcadia effort with five points. Gomez added eight rebounds for the Lady Titans.
