Maryland High School Basketball - Paint Branch prevails Watkins Mill
January 23, 2009: Burtonsville, MD 20866 Paint Branch Panthers (Burtonsville, MD) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the visiting Watkins Mill Wolverines (Gaithersburg, MD), 73-58 in a non-league bout.
With the win, Paint Branch upgrades its record to 11-2 on the season. The Panthers travel to Bethesda-Chevy Chase (Bethesda, MD) to play the Barons in a Montgomery County 3A/2A/1A - East bout on Tuesday, January 27. The Barons go into the bout with a record of 9-4. Bethesda-Chevy Chase lost 46-41 in their recent non-league bout against Poolesville (Poolesville, MD)
Next up, the Wolverines play the Damascus Hornets (Damascus, MD) in a Montgomery County 3A/2A/1A - West bout, on Tuesday, January 27. Watkins Mill will attempt to upgrade on its 4-9 season record. The Hornets go into the bout with a 5-8 record after their 43-41 non-league loss to Kennedy (Silver Spring, MD).
First Quarter
PB came out on fire in the first qtr. to lead 23-10. Ed Hall had 6 points and 9 rebounds, Stephen Griffin had 3 assists and Cody Burns and Devin Gallman had 4 points to giver PB a lead they would never give up.
Second Quarter
Things slowed down a little inj the 2nd qtr as PB took an 11 point lead into the locker room.
Third Quarter
PB erupted again in the 3rd qtr. behind 8 points from Gallman and 6 from Griffin to lead 57-39.
Fourth Quarter
PB was able to clear the bench as they coasted to a 73-58 win. Griffin had a season high 11 assists and the PB big men had a team season high 16 blocked shots, with Burns swatting 8 of them. Hall finished with a career high 17 rebounds.
