Martinsville Pirates (Martinsville, TX) backers were pleased Thursday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the visiting Shelbyville Dragons (Shelbyville, TX), 47-43 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, Martinsville upgrades its record to 9-4 on the campaign. The Pirates travel to Neches (Neches, TX) to play the Tigers in a 1A Region IV District 27 bout on Friday, December 15. The Tigers come into the bout with a record of 10-4. Neches won 46-32 in their recent non-league bout against Savoy (Savoy, TX)

Next up, the Dragons play the West Rusk Raiders (New London, TX) in a non-league bout, on Friday, December 8. Shelbyville will attempt to upgrade on its 6-1 season record.
