Fans at Friday's non-league challenge between the Vela Sabercats (Edinburg, TX) and the visiting Harlingen South Hawks (Harlingen, TX), saw Vela's basketball squad hold off Harlingen South by a tally of 28-26.

With the victory, Vela improves its record to 13-3 on the campaign. The Sabercats host Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest (Pharr, TX) to confront the Javelinas in a 5A Region IV District 31 challenge on Tuesday, December 5. The Javelinas come into the challenge with a record of 1-4. Pharr-San Juan-Alamo Southwest lost 86-21 in their recent non-league challenge against Rio Hondo (Rio Hondo, TX)

Next up, the Hawks confront the Edinburg North Cougars (Edinburg, TX) in a non-league challenge, on Saturday, December 2. Harlingen South will attempt to improve on its 9-7 season record. The Cougars come into the challenge with a 6-5 record after their 41-13 non-league win over Weslaco East (Weslaco, TX).
