Pennsylvania High School Basketball - Episcopal Academy holds off Shipley
December 6, 2011: Newtown Square, PA 19066 Episcopal Academy Churchmen (Newtown Square, PA) backers were pleased Tuesday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the visiting Shipley (Bryn Mawr, PA), 49-45 in a non-league challenge.
With the victory, Episcopal Academy improves its record to 1-1 on the campaign. The Churchmen travel to Peddie (Hightstown, NJ) to battle the Falcons in a non-league challenge on Wednesday, December 7. The Falcons come into the challenge with a record of 0-2. Peddie lost 52-41 in their recent non-league challenge against Friends' Central (Wynnewoode, PA)
Next up, the battle the Valley Forge Military Trojans (Wayne, PA) in a non-league challenge, on Friday, December 9. Shipley will attempt to improve on its 1-3 season record. The Trojans come into the challenge with a 0-1 record after their 50-37 non-league loss to Collegium Charter (Exton, PA).
First Quarter
EA started out hot with a 15-4 before Shipley closed out the quarter on a 10-0 run making it a 1 point game after the 1st quarter.
Second Quarter
A close second quarter left it at 24-22 Shipley up at the half.
Third Quarter
A very poor display of offense left the 3rd quarter with a combined 6 points between both teams. Score 25-27
Overtime
Senior forward Brian Metzler took over the game down the stretch in the 4th quarter and 2 overtimes finishing up with 27 points on the night despite a great effort by Chima Nwakpuda with 18 points and 15 rebounds before he fouled out in OT.
