California High School Lacrosse - Monte Vista tipped by Carondelet
April 24, 2012: Danville, CA 94526 Carondelet Cougars (Concord, CA) followers exited the stadium content Tuesday as they witnessed their lacrosse team gain a win over the host Monte Vista Mustangs (Danville, CA), 12-10 in a league challenge.
The Cougars now have a 13-2 record. They take the field next when they host San Ramon Valley for a East Bay challenge on Friday, April 27. Carondelet will meet a Wolves team coming off a 15-13 league win over Granada (Livermore, CA). The Wolves record now stands at 5-10.
In their next game, the Mustangs meet the Amador Valley Dons (Pleasanton, CA) in a East Bay challenge, on Friday, April 27. Monte Vista will attempt to move on its 10-2 season record. The Dons come into the challenge with a 10-2 record after their 19-5 league win over Granada (Livermore, CA).
Game Summary
Carondelet got out to a fast start and lead the game 9 - 2 with 2 minutes left in the first half before both teams traded goals in the last few minutes to enter half time with Carondelet leading 10 - 3. Monte Vista came out in the second half on a mission with nothing to loose and won a majority of the draw controls and scored 6 unanswered goals to trim Carondelets lead to 10 - 9 with 11:30 minutes left in the second half. Erin Jeffery then had a key draw control and lead a fast break which resulted in a free position goal for her to get the lead back to 2 at 11 to 9. Erin found the back of the net again just a minute later on another free position goal at the 10:15 mark. Carondelet tried to play keep away for the final 10 minutes with Monte Vista having a few chances to score but Katie Merritt stopped one of their shots and the Cougar defense caused a couple turnovers to help secure the win. Monte Vista scored with .20 seconds left to get within one, but Carondelet hung on to win
