Arkansas High School Basketball - Lee Academy ripped by Northeast Arkansas Christian Home Educators
November 15, 2012: Marianna, AR 72360 The Northeast Arkansas Christian Home Educators Eagles basketball team scored 79 points and held the host Lee Academy Cougars to 57 in the Eagles non-league triumph on Thursday.
The Eagles now sport a 2-2 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Faulkner County HomeSchool for a non-league contest on Saturday, November 17.
The Cougars (1-1) will now prepare for their contest against Lee Academy (Clarksdale, MS). The Colts enter the non-league contest with a 2-2 record. In their last contest, Lee Academy was routed by Madison Ridgeland Academy (Madison, MS), 59-46, in a league contest.
First Quarter
Brandon Cole shouldered the burden of scoring for the Eagles early in the game as his strong play under the boards accounted for 10 first quarter points. Warren Younge had 5 points including a big 3-point shot that tied the game at 13 late in the quarter. The Eagles were in foul trouble early for the second straight game as they were hit with 7 fouls in the first 8 minutes of play.
Second Quarter
The Eagles had a balanced scoring effort in the second quarter. Mason Griffin led the team for the quarter with 6 points. Caleb Manley came off the bench to drain both a two point shot and a three pointer in scoring 5 points for NEACHE. Manley, Nathan Johnson, Nate Johnson, and Daniel Allen all had solid efforts during the quarter as the Eagles rallied to tie the game at the half.
Third Quarter
Coming out of the half time break, the Eagles picked up the defensive pressure on the Cougars. As a result, NEACHE stormed into the lead outscoring the Lee Academy 26-13 during the period. Brad Sherrill led another balanced scoring effort during the quarter with 7 points. Younge and Ben Brandon scored 5 a piece and Cole chipped in another 4 points as the Eagles led after period 3 58-45.
Fourth Quarter
The Eagles closed the game with a solid fourth quarter in which all NEACHE players saw playing action. Mason Griffin led the team in scoring for the game with 18 points, followed by Cole with 16, Sherrill with 13, and Younge with 12. The Eagles improved their record to 2-2 on the season.
