Texas High School Basketball - Rice Consolidated nudges Boling
November 18, 2011: Altair, TX 77412 In Friday's non-league outing, the Rice Consolidated Raiders (Altair, TX) basketball squad got by the visiting Boling Bulldogs (Boling, TX), by a count of 38-35.
With the victory, Rice Consolidated upgrades its record to 1-0 on the campaign. The Raiders host Flatonia (Flatonia, TX) to play the Bulldogs in a non-league challenge on Tuesday, November 22. The Bulldogs come into the challenge with a record of 0-1. Flatonia lost 81-68 in their recent non-league challenge against Nixon-Smiley (Nixon, TX)
Next up, the Bulldogs play the Brazos Cougars (Wallis, TX) in a non-league challenge, on Monday, November 21. Boling will attempt to upgrade on its 0-1 season record. The Cougars come into the challenge with a 1-1 record after their 59-25 non-league loss to Bay City (Bay City, TX).
First Quarter
Rice started the game with a 7-0 run and finished the 1st quarter with a 12-9 lead. David Michalak hit 2 3-pointers and Lorezo Anderson had a basket and 1 free throw. Sean Torres and J'Marcus Hodge each ahd a basket. Boling hit 3 3-pointers to close the gap.
Second Quarter
Both teams played real hard on defense and Boling outscored Rice 7- 5, Anderson and Jordan Johnson each had a basket and Hodge hit a free throw for the Raiders.
Third Quarter
Boling started the 2nd half strong and took their 1st lead of the game and then Rice started pressing to turn the momentum back to their favor. Everitt Grounds scored 4 points, Michalk had 5 and Anderson had 3 points.
Fourth Quarter
Starting the 4th quarter tied at 29, Rice fought hard down the stretch and hit some critical freethrows to seal the win. Rice was 7 out of 12 on freethrows during that time. Michalak lead the Raiders with 5 pts. during the quarter, Grounds and Anderson each score 2 points in the 4th.
