Florida High School Baseball - Santa Fe Catholic can't hold off Avon Park
April 17, 2012: Avon Park, FL 33825 The Avon Park Red Devils baseball team scored 12 runs and limited the visiting Santa Fe Catholic Hawks to 11 in the Red Devils non-league victory on Tuesday.
The Red Devils (16-7) will now prepare for their match against Hardee (Wauchula, FL). The Wildcats go into the non-league match with a 6-15 record. In their last match, Hardee was edged by Fort Meade (Fort Meade, FL), 9-8, in a non-league match.
The Hawks (9-13) will now prepare for their match against All Saints' Academy (Winter Haven, FL). The Saints go into the non-league match with a 15-8 record. In their last match, All Saints' Academy was edged by Lakeland Christian (Lakeland, FL), 3-2, in a non-league match.
Game Summary
Santa Fe's defense allowed 6-unearned runs in the first three innings to Avon Park, but managed to mount a comeback in the late innings to make it a close game.
Santa Fe's offense was led by Chandler Hansen who was 2-5 and had 5 RBIs and 2 runs scored. Austin Barnes added a two-run double to help the Hawk offense and scored 4 times. Bruno Dezayas was 2-4 with 2 RBIs and Gabe Torre was 1-3 with an RBI. Tim Cotto was 2-3 with double and Evan Barnes also added a key hit and scored twice.
