Indiana High School Basketball - Columbus North tipped by Mooresville
January 16, 2015: Mooresville, IN 46158 The Mooresville Pioneers basketball team scored 60 points and held the visiting Columbus North Bulldogs to 55 in the Pioneers non-league triumph on Friday.
The Pioneers now sport a 9-2 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Plainfield for a Mid-State contest on Friday, January 23. Mooresville will meet a Quakers team coming off a 52-40 non-league win over Northview (Brazil, IN). The Quakers record now stands at 4-8.
The Bulldogs (11-2) will now prepare for their contest against Noblesville (Noblesville, IN). The Millers enter the non-league contest with a 9-4 record. In their last contest, Noblesville was nudged by Zionsville (Zionsville, IN), 55-41, in a league contest.
First Quarter
Both teams got off to a quick start with Mooresville hitting on 8-13 fgs and Columbus North on 6-10 (including 4-6 from behind the arc). Lane Weaver scored 8 pts in the opening quarter of play and Luke Kenney added 7 pts. Mooresville committed 2 turnovers and Columbus North just 1. Mooresville led at the end of one quarter 19-17.
Second Quarter
Mooresville cooled off some hitting on just 5-13 fgs. Columbus North hit on 7-10. Mooresville committed 2 turnovers again this quarter, but Columbus North had 3. Columbus North led at halftime 32-30.
Third Quarter
Mooresville hit on 7-13 fgs this quarter including 2-5 from behind the arc. Columbus North cooled off and hit on only 4-13 fgs (0-4 from behind the arc). Lane Weaver had a big quarter by scoring 11 pts and Cameron Harris added 4 pts. Speidel scored 7 of North's 11 in this quarter of play. Mooresville led 49-43 after three quarters of play.
Fourth Quarter
The final quarter of play was determined at the free throw line. Mooresville hit on 1-6 fgs and Columbus North 4-14 (0-6 from behind the arc). Mooresville hit on 8-15 free throw attempts and Columbus North just 4-10. Mooresville totaled 10 turnovers for the game compared to North's 9. Lane Weaver and Speidel both scored 26 pts. in the gme.
