The Hughes Springs Mustangs (Hughes Springs, TX) football edged the host Hamshire-Fannett Longhorns (Hamshire, TX), 16-13 in Thursday's non-league bout.

In their next game, the Mustangs face the Arp Tigers (Arp, TX) in a non-league bout, on Friday, September 7. Hughes Springs will attempt to advance on its 1-0 season record. The Tigers enter the bout with a 0-1 record after their 45-0 non-league loss to West Rusk (New London, TX).
