The Mt. Vernon Mustangs basketball team scored 61 points and limited the visiting Vinton-Shellsburg Vikings to 35 in the Mustangs non-league triumph on Friday.

The Mustangs now have a 9-1 record. They play next when they host Center Point-Urbana for a non-league game on Tuesday, January 14. Mt. Vernon will confront a Stormin' Pointers team coming off a 60-56 non-league loss to Grinnell (Grinnell, IA). The Stormin' Pointers record now stands at 5-5.

With the loss, Vinton-Shellsburg falls to 8-4 on the campaign. The Vikings host Clear Creek-Amana (Tiffin, IA) to confront the Clippers in a WAMAC - West game on Tuesday, January 14. The Clippers go into the game with a record of 9-6. Clear Creek-Amana lost 61-53 in their recent non-league game against Prairie (Cedar Rapids, IA)
