Sumner Cowboys (Kentwood, LA) backers were in high spirits Thursday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the host Slaughter Community Charter Knights (Slaughter, LA), 45-34 in a non-league bout.

With the win, Sumner upgrades its record to 5-16 on the season. The Cowboys host Amite (Amite, LA) to clash with the Warriors in a 3A District 7 bout on Tuesday, January 16. The Warriors go into the bout with a record of 18-5. Amite lost 60-49 in their recent league bout against Albany (Albany, LA)

Next up, the Knights clash with the Central Private Redhawks (Baker, LA) in a 1A District 9 bout, on Tuesday, January 16. Slaughter Community Charter will attempt to upgrade on its 3-6 season record. The Redhawks go into the bout with a 10-6 record after their 47-7 non-league win over False River (New Roads, LA).
