Laurel Golden Tornadoes (Laurel, MS) backers were pleased Tuesday as they saw their basketball squad knock off the host Brookhaven Panthers (Brookhaven, MS), 56-39 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, Laurel upgrades its record to 3-4 on the campaign. The Golden Tornadoes host Wayne County (Waynesboro, MS) to play the War Eagles in a 5A Region 6 bout on Saturday, January 21. The War Eagles come into the bout with a record of 2-5. Wayne County lost 44-37 in their recent non-league bout against Jackson (Jackson, AL)

Next up, the Panthers play the Florence Eagles (Florence, MS) in a 5A Region 5 bout, on Friday, January 20. Brookhaven will attempt to upgrade on its 10-11 season record. The Eagles come into the bout with a 2-7 record after their 58-55 league loss to Natchez (Natchez, MS).
