The crowd at Friday's non-league challenge between the East Wilkes Cardinals (Ronda, NC) and the visiting Wilkes Central Eagles (Wilkesboro, NC), observed East Wilkes's basketball team overwhelm Wilkes Central by a score of 61-9.
The Cardinals (5-9) will now prepare for their challenge against Starmount (Boonville, NC). The Rams come into the 1A Northwest challenge with a 11-5 record. In their last challenge, Starmount trounced Alleghany (Sparta, NC), 52-39, in a league challenge.
In their next game, the Eagles battle the Forbush Falcons (East Bend, NC) in a 2A Foothills challenge, on Tuesday, January 21. Wilkes Central will attempt to improve on its 2-13 season record. The Falcons come into the challenge with a 12-3 record after their 64-54 league loss to North Wilkes (Hays, NC).
