The Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougars (Sumner, IA) basketball nipped the visiting New Hampton Chickasaws (New Hampton, IA), 49-46 in Thursday's non-league test.

The Cougars (3-8) will now prepare for their test against South Winneshiek (Calmar, IA). The Warriors go into the non-league test with a 8-6 record. In their last test, South Winneshiek was tipped by Turkey Valley (Jackson Junction, IA), 63-57, in a league test.

The Chickasaws now own a 5-8 record. They play next when they host Waukon for a Northeast Iowa test on Friday, January 20. New Hampton will encounter a Indians squad coming off a 49-48 non-league win over Prairie du Chien (Prairie du Chien, WI). The Indians record now stands at 3-11.
