In Monday's non-league match, the visiting Laurel Golden Tornadoes basketball team scored a good 38-26 triumph over the Newton Tigers.

In their next game, the Golden Tornadoes meet the Wayne County War Eagles (Waynesboro, MS) in a 5A Region 6 match, on Friday, January 6. Laurel will attempt to better on its 10-3 season record. The War Eagles enter the match with a 2-1 record after their 71-55 non-league win over Belmont (Belmont, MS).

With the defeat, Newton moves to 5-5 on the year. The Tigers host Noxubee County (Macon, MS) to meet the Tigers in a non-league match on Tuesday, January 3. The Tigers enter the match with a record of 9-2. Noxubee County lost 64-52 in their recent non-league match against Louisville (Louisville, MS)
