The Portsmouth Patriots (Portsmouth, RI) basketball nipped the host Westerly Bulldogs (Westerly, RI), 78-73 in Wednesday's league test.

The Patriots (7-7) will now prepare for their test against Woonsocket (Woonsocket, RI). The Villa Novans go into the State Championship test with a 6-7 record.

The Bulldogs now own a 5-7 record. They play next when they travel to Cranston East for a State Championship test on Friday, January 27. Westerly will encounter a Thunderbolts squad coming off a 73-65 league loss to Mt. Pleasant (Providence, RI). The Thunderbolts record now stands at 5-9.
