Richland County Tigers (Olney, IL) backers were pleased Thursday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the visiting Newton Eagles (Newton, IL), 31-26 in a league bout.

With the victory, Richland County upgrades its record to 12-13 on the campaign. The Tigers travel to Edwards County (Albion, IL) to play the Lions in a non-league bout on Saturday, January 28. The Lions come into the bout with a record of 23-3. Edwards County won 49-37 in their recent league bout against Carmi-White County (Carmi, IL)

Next up, the Eagles play the Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City Bobcats (Cowden, IL) in a non-league bout, on Saturday, January 28. Newton will attempt to upgrade on its 11-14 season record. The Bobcats come into the bout with a 15-8 record after their 54-51 league win over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg (Windsor, IL).
