Ellinwood Eagles (Ellinwood, KS) backers were in high spirits Friday as they witnessed their basketball squad thwart the visiting Lyons Lions (Lyons, KS), 50-40 in a non-league bout.

With the win, Ellinwood upgrades its record to 8-5 on the season. The Eagles travel to St. John (St. John, KS) to play the Tigers in a Central Prairie bout on Monday, January 29. The Tigers go into the bout with a record of 7-6. St. John won 56-41 in their recent non-league bout against Ness City (Ness City, KS)

Next up, the Lions play the Smoky Valley Vikings (Lindsborg, KS) in a Central Kansas challenge, on Tuesday, January 30. Lyons will attempt to improve on its 5-8 season record. The Vikings come into the challenge with a 2-10 record after their 78-44 non-league loss to Clay Center (Clay Center, KS).
