The Mustangs (18-5) will now prepare for their challenge against Venus (Venus, TX). The Bulldogs come into the 4A Region II District 12 challenge with a 9-13 record. In their last challenge, Venus was tipped by Alvarado (Alvarado, TX), 62-60, in a league challenge.

In their next game, the Hornets encounter the Brownsboro Bears (Brownsboro, TX) in a 4A Region II District 15 challenge, on Tuesday, January 7. Athens will attempt to improve on its 13-8 season record. The Bears come into the challenge with a 9-11 record after their 67-62 league loss to Kemp (Kemp, TX).
